Claustrophobia (Detail) Polymer acrylic, acetate, ink 40 x 38 cm 2015
Images of window-shop mannequins were mapped with drawn outlines and were digitally printed to realize the play of optics in a contained box. The elongated square container with an open lid was made using polymer acrylic. The acetate sheets were then aligned to superimpose each image so they can merge when viewed from an eye view level. The intentional placements of facial features sourced from various mannequins to form an indistinguishable look of a human or a replica shaped optical distortion. Different ranges of images form a tonal density from right to left. The photographs display cultural and social overtones that are projected over these mannequins which are customized as per the locality. Photographs used in this assemblage are taken in Bur Dubai, Global village, and Abu Dhabi Mall.
