Peepshow
Acrylic, collage, enamel paint
2007
The installation was created based on the idea of voyeuristic fantasy. It took the form of a room that onlookers had visual access to via a peephole in the door. Inside the walls have imagery of erotic Lollywood film scenes, and image-stills of foreign porn magazines were collaged to create a visual landscape. For the viewer, the feeling of desire, lust, passion, yet exclusion is designed to mimic disconnected intimacy devoid of emotions where animal instincts become automatic and overwhelming. The door was painted with repeated red lips, and an emergency light was installed on the door frame to draw attention. The work speaks of the unconscious nature that lies within us, which alters our perception of control to gain satisfaction.
